Second week students practicing Construct and Articulation. The essence of drawing is plotting, i.e. to locate two points on a piece of paper and connect them with a straight line. Thats all there is to it.

The face is full of small details and nuances. Rather than plot every single detail we look for approximations to begin with. These approximate lines are called Construct lines which form the frame work of the portrait. Construct lines help to develop our decision making process, deciding on what information is important or unnecessary. Once we are happy that everything is in place then we can add the smaller detailed lines Articulation lines.

The students are using references from the Charles Bargue Drawing Course.
