This is one of my favourite pieces of homework from this years portrait painting program. Unfortunately the student wants to remain anonymous.

For me this portrait is a good example of the process taught at the Realist Academy. Students are taught to break down the form of the face into what looks an abstract patchwork of shapes. Observing the hue, chroma and tone of each plane. The steps in each lesson are a quantifiable means of measuring a students understanding of the principles taught on the course.
