Video Tutorial

The video tutorials cover the process of painting a full-color portrait, as taught in the final term of the Portrait Painting Course.

In a typical class, Louis demonstrates each step in front of the students and then assists them with any necessary corrections as they follow along.

Students can attend the Part-Time Portrait Painting Course either through the Virtual Online Class or in person at the Academy.

In this painting, Louis used student-quality paints to illustrate that you don’t need high-quality pigments to achieve good results. If you’re on a budget, Winsor & Newton Winton Oils are about a third of the price of the Artists’ Oil Paints.

Alex Full Palette Portrait

In this painting, Louis used the wet-on-wet technique over a four-day period. To do this, he used Winsor & Newton Artists’ Oil Paints with a medium made from Stand Oil, White Spirit, and Oil of Cloves to slow down the drying time.
